As the snow melts and capacity increases for indoor venues, Chicago has begun to slowly open to the public. Restaurants are seating guests indoors, museums are welcoming back patrons, and select theaters are allowing movie-goers to reserve seats in advance. If you’re like many Illinois residents, you’re ready to get out again while staying COVID safe. We’ve compiled a list of just a few Chicago venues that are now open so you can start planning your weekend.
Garfield Park Conservatory – Humboldt Park

Serving as a central point to the Humboldt Park neighborhood, the Garfield Park Conservatory opened once again to the public at the end of February. Their Spring Flower Show, Saturation, is currently open and will run through May 9th. The conservatory asks that you reserve a spot in advance as a limited number of people are allowed inside at a time. Each guest will have 60 minutes to enjoy the vibrant exhibition, featuring flowers of every color, down a one-way path. Still hesitant about going in person? Digital tours and weekly virtual events are being offered through their website to those looking for a way to bring the outdoors in.
WNDR Museum – West Loop

If you’ve seen an Instagram photo that shows two people standing on opposite sides of an optical illusion room, then you know about the WNDR Museum. An immersive art experience in Chicago’s West Loop, the WNDR Museum has reopened its doors. The museum has expanded and the reopening includes more than 20 new touchless installations. Known for their Infinity Mirror Room designed by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, guests are allowed just one minute to carefully walk through each space. Just make sure to book your ticket in advance! When you arrive temperatures will be taken and a one-way path will guide you from room to room.
RPM Wine School – River North

Escape to Italy and beyond from the comfort of your home with RPM Wine School. Led by RPM Wine Director, Richard Hanauer, each week you will be transported to a different region around the world accompanied by four wines to taste from that area. These stand-alone classes are offered twice a week and are perfect if you’re interested in learning more about the process and history of making wine. Head to their website and book your ticket in advance to this hour-long virtual tasting. Plan to stop by RPM Seafood in River North to pick up your wine in advance.
Field Museum – South Loop

The Field Museum is a Chicago staple but have you ever been? Admission for Illinois residents is free every Thursday from 9am-5pm. All you need to bring is a copy of your state ID with you and you’re good to go. Enjoy history for the day at this South Loop museum as you tour through its many exhibits. Explore everything from Ancient Egypt to nature scenes around the world. Their current featured exhibit showcases the history of the Apsáalooke women and warriors and will be open through July 18th. Interactive and smaller exhibits have been closed to allow for social distancing. Additionally, hand sanitizer stations have been placed throughout and the number of visitors allowed at a time will be limited. Plan your museum visit today here.
